Henry Cavill has lost the role of Superman — what does this mean for the actor who recently announced he is leaving The Witcher?
Widely reported (including by Deadline), Henry Cavill is no longer playing Superman in future films. While superhero recastings are commonplace (eg Spiderman), and many actors have played the Kryptonian (eg in the current Superman and Lois show), this is still unexpected.
On his Instagram account he posted the following:
Good words, but what next?
The Witcher no more
It’s not long since we learned Henry Cavill will not be in The Witcher after season 3 (coming in 2023). The reason given was to free him to appear as Superman in the next film. Might this be reversed? Fans also believe there was a falling out with the writers. We have no view on this, but do wonder if there’s a way back for Cavill as Geralt.
More Enola Holmes?
We particularly enjoyed Enola Holmes 2 and would be very glad to have many more films (there are several books yet to adapt). With Cavill looking to have plenty of spare time, this bodes well for fans of this particular Sherlock Holmes series.
What about the DC franchise?
Cavill’s films brought over $2 billion to the box office, but fans are also speculating changes mean Gal Gadot will be leaving the role of Wonder Woman as well. We’ll keep our eyes open and let you know if that happens.
