Janelle Monáe replaces Julia Roberts as the star of Amazon’s Homecoming when the anthology series returns in May…

Mr Robot creator Sam Esmail has left the second season of his Amazon anthology series Homecoming, which is loosely based on the successful podcast, in the hands of co-showrunners Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, as everything changes up for a new instalment in the Geist conspiracy story running through the series.

Janelle Monáe will lead the cast of Homecoming in season 2, while Stephan James returns as former recovering amnesiac Walter Cruz. Other new cast additions include Chris Cooper as Leonard Geist and Joan Cusack as Francine Bunda.

“The critically-acclaimed series Homecoming returns for its second season with new twists and an exciting new star, Janelle Monáe. Her character wakes in a rowboat adrift a lake, with no memory of how she got there — or even who she is. Her ensuing search for identity will lead her into the heart of the Geist Group, the unconventional wellness company behind the Homecoming Initiative.”
