It’s was announced last month that the talented folk behind Horrible Histories are resurrecting the show for both another series and a big-screen movie – and now the film’s mighty cast has been announced…
The film, called Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans, has already started production and while it will be separate from the TV series, old favourites from the show have been enlisted.
They include – deep breath – Sanjeev Bhaskar, Dave Lamb, Sarah Hadland, Jessica Ransom, Dominique Moore, Katy Wix, Tom Stourton, Richard David-Caine, Lawry Lewin, Katherine Jakeways and more!
The film is set to follow unlikely Roman soldier Atti (played by Sebastian Croft) and feisty Celtic warrior Orla (Utopia‘s Emilia Jones) who form a bond when Orla abducts Atti after he’s forced to enlist in the army by Emperor Nero (Submarine‘s Craig Roberts) and sent to Britain.
Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans has managed to bag huge names like Nick Frost as Orla’s dad, Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall as Atti’s mum, as well as Sherlock‘s Rupert Graves, GLOW‘s Kate Nash, and Peep Show‘s Alex Macqueen.
On top of that they’ve also cast Alexander Armstrong, Lee Mack, Warwick Davis, Lucy Montgomery, Samantha Spiro, Chris Addison and Sir Derek Jacobi who’ll be returning to his title role in I, Claudius.
Dominic Brigstocke, a veteran of the show, will be on directing duties whilst Jessica Swale, Giles Pilbrow and Caroline Norris are assembling the script. The production team have also released a first-look image, which we’ve stuck at the top of this piece.
Set the date in your diary – the big screen adaptation of Horrible Histories will premiere on UK and Irish cinemas on 26th July 2019.
