Bella Mackie’s book is being adapted by Extraordinary‘s Emma Moran.
At the Edinburgh TV Festival, Netflix have revealed details of a new project starring Anya Taylor-Joy.
The actor rose to fame with her star turn as Beth Harmon in The Queen’s Gambit for the streamer, before becoming a bona fide movie star.
Now, she is leading their adaptation of Bella Mackie’s 2021 novel How To Kill Your Family.
The book follows the story of Grace, the illegitimate daughter of a millionaire who abandoned her and her mother, ignoring her mother’s pleas for help as she was close to dying. Grace vows revenge and decides to kill every member of her father’s family, leaving him for last.
The show’s lead writer is Emma Moran (Extraordinary), who executive produces with Sally Woodward Gentle, Lizzie Rusbridger and Lee Morris for Sid Gentle Films (Killing Eve). Anya Taylor-Joy also executive produces for LadyKiller, with Bella Mackie as co-producer.
Anya Taylor-Joy said:
As soon as I turned the last page, I knew I had to be a part of bringing this story to life. After some (light) stalking of the inimitable Bella Mackie, I could not be more thrilled to be collaborating with the team that is Sally, Lizzie and Emma. I am looking forward to getting our hands even dirtier.”
Emma Moran added:
“It’s been thrilling to watch the characters I wrote take on new life under this magnificent creative team. Anya is the most perfect fit to play Grace: I often think she understands her better than I do. Pairing up with Sid Gentle has been joyful, and introducing me to Emma has made me supremely confident the book is in safe hands.”
The book becomes an eight-episode series, according to Netflix’s Tudum.
