The book that the movie is based on, Leave the World Behind, has not yet been released…
Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington are set to reunite for a new thriller movie at Netflix called Leave the World Behind. The pair previously starred together in 1993’s The Pelican Brief, and Sam Esmail, who created Mr Robot and the Roberts-led Homecoming at Amazon, will direct and write the film based on the forthcoming book of the same name by Rumaan Alam.
Via THR, Leave the World Behind “follows a husband and wife as they head out to a remote corner of Long Island expecting a vacation with their teenage son and daughter. When the owners of the rental return in a panic one night after they say a sudden blackout has swept through the city, the couple aren’t sure what to believe. With the TV and internet down and no cell service, the two families are forced into a tense living situation. Themes dealing with race, class, and parenthood are tackled.”
It is thought that Netflix paid upwards of $100 million to acquire the project against tough competition from Apple and MGM.
More soon.
