Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning to Robert E Howard’s hero with King Conan
It seems a mere 42 year gap since the release of Conan the Destroyer there’s more for Arnie to do in the role.
What do we know about King Conan
From Entertainment Weekly, we first learn Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) is set to write and direct the film for 20th Century Studios. McQuarrie has spent the last decade working with Tom Cruise’s on the previous four Mission: Impossible movies, and King Conan will be his first non-Mission directorial project since 2012’s Jack Reacher. The article goes on to remind us how pivotal the two previous Conan films were in Schwarzenegger’s career, the second coming out before Terminator.
Schwarzenegger recently give a sense of how he sees the story developing (and also talks Commando 2 and a return to the Predator franchise):
“It’s a great story where Conan was [king for] 40 years, and he gets complacent, and now he gets forced out of the kingdom, slowly. Then there’s conflict, and then he somehow comes back, and then there’s all kinds of madness and violence and magic and creatures. Now, of course, you have all the special effects, and the studio system has plenty of money to make those movies really big.”
We expect a lot more news once the project moves into production. We will, of course, keep you posted.
