Tessa Thompson, Thor: Ragnarok scene-stealer and future Men in Black star, has signed on the dotted line to star as Lady in Disney’s live-action retooling of Lady and the Tramp.
Thompson, who found fame in Justin Simien’s Dear White People, will take the lead opposite Justin Theroux who will play Tramp. The film has also cast Ashley Jensen as a Scottish Terrier by the name of Jackie, Marvel’s Benedict Wong as Bull, an English Bulldog and Kiersey Clemons as Lady’s human owner, Darling.
The LEGO Ninjago Movie director Charlie Bean will be behind the camera on this one and the script will be penned by Andrew Bujalski. Brigham Taylor will be on producing duties.
Lady and the Tramp will premiere on Disney’s new streaming service, which is said to launch in late 2019, so we expect to see the film around then. It joins Disney’s already crowded slate of 2019 live-action remakes, like Dumbo, Aladdin and The Lion King.
As Lady and the Tramp continues to add to its cast and enters production next month we expect to get more updates and we’ll pass those along when we receive them.
