With a place in the hall of so-bad-it’s-good films, there’s rumblings that it’s time to give Leprechaun another go. Here’s the latest:

Originally hailed as a weird and sometimes misunderstood mainstay of pulp-horror enjoyers, the original work was panned at the time and gained a somewhat controversial reputation for the following years. Over time, it gained a cult status for those who enjoyed the sheer absurdity of the story and the slap-dash quality of the production. Recent reports have revealed the work might be reworked into something new, but what would that look like?

What’s Leprechaun about?

The premise for the film entails murderous and witty Leprechaun who protects his pot of gold with deadly precision. The film is actually part of a franchise spanning eight films between 1993 and 2018. Mark Jones (Scorned) was behind the original, starring Warwick Davis (Harry Potter) as the original titular character. Some highlights from the film’s run so far include the monster’s tiny red car and proclivity for the devil’s lettuce. The adaptation for such a property could literally go anywhere.

Who’s behind the revival?

Patrick Melton (The Collector) and Marcus Dunstan (Unhuman) are the writers behind the project, with Oren Koules (Saw) and Miles Koules (Trust) set to produce.
