The series takes the man out of time concept and applies it to a late-1970s PE teacher.

The BBC have revealed a first look at their forthcoming comedy Mammoth.

From what we’ve read, the series takes the Adam Adamant / Captain America frozen in ice concept but, rather than a hero, uses it to draw a 1979 PE teacher into the present day. It sounds like a lot of fun!

Here’s the official synopsis:

Tony Mammoth is a blast from the past, a man out of time, literally. In 1979 he was a carefree bachelor, teaching PE and generally living la vida loca. Right up until an avalanche on a school ski trip swept him away to what was surely his untimely death. Except Mammoth didn’t die…

In 2024 Mammoth is miraculously found and brought back to life, a perfectly preserved middle-aged man. The world is his oyster, but Mammoth never really liked oysters, he’s more of a pint and a packet of crisps sort of bloke. So all that Mammoth wants is his old life back; the same job, the same car, the same friends. Things can’t have changed THAT much since the 70s, surely?

When Mammoth meets Mel, the pair don’t see eye to eye. She’s the mother of one of his pupils (Joel Davison). But little do they know they have a lot more in common than they think….

The show stars Mike Bubbins as Tony Mammoth, with Sian Gibson (Car Share) as Mel Jones. The cast also includes Joseph Marcell (The Fresh Prince of Bel Air), Joel Davison (Survivors) and William Thomas.

Mammoth is created by Mike Bubbins, who co-writes with Paul Doolan. The director is Simon Hynd (Ghosts), the producer is Luke Mason. It’s a BBC Studios Comedy production, with executive producers Josh Cole and Steven Canny.

The show has been commissioned for three 30-minute episodes which will air on BBC Two and stream on iPlayer.
