The Mitchells vs the Machines is out today on Netflix and the streamer welcomes the film with some fun facts and a trailer
It’s billed as: a wild story about an ordinary family who find themselves in the middle of a robot apocalypse – while on a road trip to drop their daughter Katie off at film school.
If that’s not tempting enough, the cast includes Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Beck Bennett, Fred Armisen, Eric Andre, Olivia Colman, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen. We’ve the inevitable trailer, but Netflix has also brought us a fun set of 11 ‘Things That Will Short Your Circuits‘. We won’t go through them all here, but we will mention a couple.
First for movie buffs, Katie Mitchell’s room, backpack, and clothes are littered with movie references. She is wearing The Shining-patterned socks, a Wes Anderson-inspired “Lawn Wranglers” pin on her backpack, and a Dr. Strangelove pin. Her movie heroes are Céline Sciamma, Lynne Ramsey, Hal Ashby, and Greta Gerwig, and her movie parodies include: Monchi: Fear Eats the Soul and Fear and Loathing in Central Michigan. On the other end of the scale we note earlier versions included the idea for an in-series TV show titled Everyone Loves Killbot. Now that’s one spin-off we’d like to see!
