Ahead of its January release, AMC have shared a trailer for their upcoming series Monsieur Spade.
The six-part story follows Sam Spade, the hard-boiled detective of The Maltese Falcon, in his retirement.
For this 1960’s set show, Clive Owen steps into the role of Spade, who was created by writer Dashiell Hammett and made famous onscreen by Humphrey Bogart.
Here’s the synopsis for Monsieur Spade:
The year is 1963, and the legendary Detective Sam Spade is enjoying his retirement in the South of France.
By contrast to his days as a private eye in San Francisco, Spade’s life in Bozouls is peaceful and quiet. But the rumoured return of his old adversary will change everything. Six beloved nuns have been brutally murdered at the local convent. As the town grieves, secrets emerge, and new leads are established. Spade learns that the murders are somehow connected to a mysterious child who is believed to possess great powers.
Alongside Owen, the cast includes Cara Bossom (Radioactive), Denis Ménochet (Inglorious Basterds), Louise Bourgoin (The Romanoffs), Chiara Mastroianni (On a Magical Night), Stanley Weber (Outlander), Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game), Jonathan Zaccaï (Robin Hood) and Rebecca Root (The Queen’s Gambit). Alfre Woodard and Dean Winters also guest star.
In conjunction with the Dashiell Hammett Estate, the show is produced by Black Bear, in association with Haut et Court TV, for AMC, AMC+ and Canal+. The co-creators are Scott Frank (The Queen’s Gambit) and Tom Fontana (Oz).
Frank writes, directs and executive produces with Fontana and Barry Levinson. As are Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler; Haut et Court’s Caroline Benjo, Simon Arnal, and Carole Scotta; Clive Owen; Carlo Martinelli; and David Helpern.
