If you’re tired of Sherlock Holmes stories following the puzzle-solving hero, let’s take a look at what we know about the new Moriarty drama:
Since Moffat’s adaptation of Doyle’s best-known character, there’s been a boom in media around the detective. From Guy Ritchie’s multiple fun cinematic romps to his latest serialised look at the young genius’ origin, there’s plenty to watch about the protagonist. Recent announcements have come out about a new story from the same world, tackling the story of the greatest mind’s greatest adversary.
What’s Moriarty about?
Giving a more modern twist on the classic story, we meet the nefarious professor at his workplace in Durham University. By day, he goes about his administrative chores, by night he becomes the mind behind every sophisticated crime in England’s north. Running an underground crime empire isn’t easy enough as is, things become even more difficult when a rival criminal starts trying to dismantle everything he’s built. His solution? Double-cross the police by offering his services to them in order to fly under the radar whilst manipulating things to work in his favour. One more drawback comes with the sharp-minded DI he’s paired with, who becomes more suspicious the more the pair work together.
Who’s behind it?
The series will be produced by Kris Thykier (I Give It a Year), the writers include Chris Cornwell (A Discovery of Witches) and Oliver Lansley (Where’s Wanda?).
