Netflix has announced it has acquired Joe Penna’s sci-fi thriller Stowaway
From the description it’s a tense, claustrophobic tale and was directed by Joe Penna, who shares writing credits with Ryan Morrison. The cast includes Anna Kendrick (A Simple Favor, Pitch Perfect), Toni Collette (Velvet Buzzsaw, Hereditary), Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-O, Lost, Always Be My Maybe), and Shamier Anderson (Race, Destroyer).
The summary of the plot is:
On a mission headed to Mars, an unintended stowaway (Anderson) accidentally causes severe damage to the spaceship’s life support systems. Facing dwindling resources and a potentially grim outcome, a medical researcher (Kendrick) emerges as the only dissenting voice against the clinical logic of both her commander (Collette) and the ship’s biologist (Kim).
Stowaway is the second feature from Penna and Morrison, the duo behind the Cannes Official Selection Arctic. Netflix has acquired the rights for US, UK, Australia/New Zealand, India, Latin America, Africa, and select other countries in Asia and Europe, so should be available to Cultbox fans when released.
Joe Penna is from Brazil, and is a YouTuber as well as a musician and filmmaker. We haven’t found a trailer for Stowaway but this trailer for Arctic gives a sense of the talents of Penna and Morrison.
