Netflix has released a Bridgerton trailer ahead of Christmas Day when the show launches

One of the big shows Netflix has planned for the holiday season is Bridgerton. Launching on Christmas Day, it’s based on a set of books by Julia Quinn and follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. The trailer start with Daphne making a sweeping entrance, meeting the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) and conniving with him to stage a fake romance. The intention is this allows them to outwit various people looking to exploit them. Marriage is a high-stakes game, or so it seems.

The series seems to have more than a little flavour of Jane Austen (no bad thing) and follows the couple as they realise what starts as a trick may end up becoming more serious.

The story is narrated by the unseen Lady Whistledown (Julie Andrews) who opens the Bridgerton trailer with the words all is fair in love and war. It then moves through a sequence of snapshots of the Regency social scene, replete with gossip, dancing, parties and passion. An ideal way to unwind over the holiday season. There’s even time for a duel and the now obligatory shirtless scene for the male lead.
