Big Mood

Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West return for more Big Mood

Maggie and Eddie are back as Big Mood is scores a second series commission.

From Derry Girls to Bridgerton, Barbie to festive Doctor Who, Nicola Coughlan’s star continues to burn brightly. Last year she paired with Lydia West (It’s A Sin, Inside Man) for Big Mood, and Channel 4 have just confirmed the show’s return.

Together they play Maggie and Eddie, best friends for a decade. In the first series, the pair navigated life together as Maggie’s bipolar disorder made an unwelcome return.

Here’s what Channel 4 say about Big Mood series 2:

It’s been a year since Maggie and Eddie last saw each other, without any contact between the best friends. When Eddie suddenly returns for a wedding, she isn’t alone – Maggie has competition, in the form of an infuriatingly positive spiritual healer named Whitney. Can Maggie and her special brand of chaos find space in Eddie’s new life? Or will Maggie lose Eddie forever?

Writer and creator Camilla Whitehill says:

“I had no plan B and zero transferable skills so I am overjoyed to be bringing Big Mood back for another round! Discovering that there are actually loads of weirdos who like the same weirdo stuff as me has been a real privilege. My eternal love and gratitude go to everyone at Channel 4, Dancing Ledge and Fremantle for their fierce support and hard work. My ongoing blackmail campaign against Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West continues in earnest. They’ll never escape me.”

Nicola Coughlan says:

“Deeply grateful to everyone who loves our mad, funny, sad show. It’s been one of the greatest joys of my life making it, and I’m beyond delighted that we get to come back and tell the next chapter of Maggie and Eddie’s story. Rats at the ready.”

Lydia West adds:

“So excited to reunite with my besties and work on series 2! I can’t wait to see the scripts and get back to the world of Eggie!”

Big Mood comes from writer/creator Camilla Whitehill and director Rebecca Asher (Brooklyn Nine Nine), who returns for series 2. Lotte Beasley Mestriner also returns to executive produce series two, along with executive producers Laurence Bowen and Chris Carey for Dancing Ledge Productions.

Series 1 of Big Mood is currently available to stream on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US and Canada, it’s on Tubi. We’ll keep you posted on series 2.
