Outlander renewed — great news for fans but, of course, they’re still waiting for season 6
As Outlander fans are filling the wait for season 6 by watching Men in Kilts, Stars has already renewed the show for season 7. Deadline (and others) are reporting on Outlander renewed and we summarise what it’s all about here.
Matthew B. Roberts will continue as showrunner with stars Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin all returning for season seven, which will be based on An Echo in the Bone, the seventh book in Diana Gabaldon’s book series. There will again be 12 episodes.
If you don’t know, Balfe plays Claire Randall, a married former WWII nurse who in 1946 finds herself transported back to Scotland in 1743. Gabaldon has a ninth book – Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone – due to come out, so plenty for fans to look forward to. Season 5 took ideas from two novels (The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes) and season 6 is expected to pickup on the consequences of the season 5 ending and the burgeoning American Civil War.
No word on any spin-off series, and we imagine those will wait until production across the industry is back on an even keel. Until season 6 arrives, you can still watch the first five seasons as part of your Amazon Prime account. UPDATE — there’s also an announcement video as well.
