With filming coming to a close, it seems Paul Giamatti isn’t reprising Nus Braka for Starfleet Academy season 2
If you’re only a casual fan of the show, you may not have realised Starfleet Academy has already been filming season 2. There are good economic reasons, such as not having to tear down sets. With a younger cast playing academy age students, it also means fewer sudden changes of appearance between seasons. If you’ve been watching season 1, you’ll have seen Paul Giamatti is season villain Nus Braka. Despite the central placing of his character in both the pilot and recent episode 6, it seems he won’t be back for season 2.
Why is Paul Giamatti not returning for season 2
According to a piece on the Dark Horizons website, Braka is in several more episodes this season, but not returning at all for season 2. It seems his character survives whatever happens later this run. He recently appeared on The D-Con Chamber podcast with hosts Dominic Keating and Connor Trinneer, and confirmed his character survives the first season – but isn’t returning for the second. However he’s quite open to returning for a third:
“He’s still alive. So, you know, something could be done with him. I just enjoyed doing it with everybody. I liked being on set. It was pleasant. We all probably know that’s not always the case.”
With the current run ending on March 12, we’ve still to have the Jonathan Frakes directed episode as well as Mary Wiseman as Tilly for one episodes (and more in season 2?) We’re hoping for more news on season 2 at that time. We’ll keep you posted.
