Michael Sheen’s performance as Chris Tarrant is uncanny…

ITV must be pleased with Quiz, its three-part series about the 2001 coughing scandal on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? The ratings for the first episode have shown that 5.3 million people tuned in (via BARB). A typical programme in that time slot usually gets around 3.8 million viewers. At the same time over on BBC One, The Nest attracted almost 4.7 million pairs of eyes.

In Quiz, Michael Sheen (Good Omens) stars as host Chris Tarrant. The series was created by James Graham and directed by Stephen Frears. Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) plays Major Charles Ingram, and Sian Clifford (Fleabag) is Diana Ingram.

Quiz tells the story of Major Ingram, his wife Diana and an accomplice, Tecwen Whittock, who was sitting in the audience, who were accused of cheating their way to a million pounds on the most popular game show on earth in 2001. The couple stood trial for conspiring by coughing during the recording to signify the correct answers to the multiple choice questions posed by Chris Tarrant.

Mark Bonnar (Line Of Duty), Helen McCrory (Peaky Blinders), Michael Jibson (The Thirteenth Tale) and Aisling Bea (This Way Up) round out the rest of the cast.
