Dahmer holds onto the top spot in the latest Nielsens, cementing three weeks at #1 — we discuss everything that happened

The latest Nielsen ratings (US Original drama) for October 3-9 put Dahmer as once again the most watched show. Last week we were looking for:

…a third and final week at the top for Dahmer, a good week for The Empress and a fade for Cobra-Kai. Add in Bake Off, Andor and The Handmaid’s Tale there’s plenty to look our for, including She-Hulk.

As you’ll see from the numbers, few surprises this time.

The Nielsen numbers (US audience) for streamed originals October 3-9

As usual, we add columns marked ‘*’.

Dahmer holds onto the top spot

For the third (and we believe final) time, serial drama killer Dahmer (based on real events) is the most watched. While its numbers are only just over half of last weeks (see link above), it’s still way out in front. Note also the interview programme Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes entered the list at #5, demonstrating a morbid curiosity / fascination with the topic.

Dragonwatch

House of the Dragon counts as an acquired show, not original, so doesn’t appear on this list. For the week in question it garnered an audience of 921 million minutes for HBO Max, not quite topping Prime Video’s Rings of Power but still strong.

What else happened?

The Midnight Club
The Midnight Club

Actually very little. Eight titles were in the list last time, and apart from the Dahmer tapes mentioned already, the other new show was teen horror series The Midnight Club. It’s a disappointing week for Star Wars prequel show Andor only just keeping a chart position, where-as She-Hulk held firm, exceeding the audience for The Handmaid’s Tale. Meanwhile the ever popular (and renamed for US audiences) Bake Off has another solid week.

What are we looking for next?

The Netflix numbers show The Watcher displacing Dahmer for Netflix at the top of the table, good figures for The Midnight Club and possible new entries including The Sinner season 4. Will Andor still be in the list? Can She-Hulk manage another week in the chart? We’ll let you know next time.

In other news

Regular visitors will know we had a The Sandman watch section of this weekly article until it faded from the chart. Good news is we are getting a season 2! Fans of audience numbers might also like to know Netflix (and others) have signed up to the UK’s Broadcaster’s Audience Research Board (BARB), meaning we will soon be getting UK focused audience numbers for streaming mixed in with the regular linear TV audience figures, so stay tuned for more numbers!
