With a very recognisable cast list and a grounded, funny story, here’s all the information we have so far on the latest HBO Original comedy series:
What’s it about?
Rooster follows an author trying to navigate the complicated relationship he has with his daughter. The comedy series is set to take place on a college campus with a rich ensemble of characters.
Who’s in it?
The currently confirmed cast list includes Steve Carell (The Office), Charly Clive (The Lazarus Project), Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson), Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso), John C. McGinley (Scrubs) and Lauren Tsai (Legion). With Carell on the cast list, Rooster marks another step away from the sitcom in the actor’s TV career, he’s recently starred in the likes of The Morning Show and The Four Seasons, making a move towards more scripted shows and branching out from his still-persisting notoriety from The Office.
Who’s behind it?
Rooster will be executive produced by Bill Lawrence (Spin City), Jeff Ingold (Shrinking), Liza Katzer (Ted Lasso), Matt Tarses (Sports Night), Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia), Barbie Adler (My Name Is Earl), Annie Mebane (The Goldbergs), David Stassen (Central Intelligence), Anthony King (Silicon Valley) and Steve Carell. Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses will both be co-showrunners and are both listed as writers for the ten episode series for Warner Bros Television.
When’s it out?
Rooster will debut in March 2026, if you’re looking for more information, check out the full announcement post from Warner Bros here.
