The cast for Fox’s upcoming small screen production of Rent has officially been announced, and it’s set to star Vanessa Hudgens, Kiersey Clemons and Jordan Fisher…
Following critically successful live musicals like Hairspray Live!, Grease Live and the Emmy-nominated Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, Rent: Live will follow a group of bohemian New Yorkers in the late 80s grappling with drugs, AIDs and sexuality.
It’s challenging material and Fox have announced who is tasked with bringing it to life. Jordan Fisher will lead as Mark while Brennin Hunt will play Roger. Singer Tinashe will play Mimi, High School Musical alum Vanessa Hudgens will play Maureen and incoming Iris West actress Kiersey Clemons will play Maureen’s girlfriend, Joanne.
RuPaul’s Drag Race star Valentina will play the flamboyant Angel and Tony-winner and Hamilton star Brandon Victor Dixon will play Angel’s boyfriend. Finishing out the cast is singer Mario as their landlord, Benny.
Grease: Live director Alex Rudzinski will helm it and the production will be broadcast live on Sunday 27th January 2019.
Traditionally, the production is broadcast in the UK the following week so we’ll pass on word of an air date when we get it.
