The game that graced arcades across Japan in the 90’s and grew into a series stretching across decades is taking Samurai Spirits to the movies:
From the original title to the more recent iterations, the video game was recently deemed ripe for adaptation for the big screen. The latest release of information about the production reveals who will be bringing it to life.
What’s Samurai Spirits about?
The story of the film will be inspired by the original rendition of the franchise, one which focussed on two warriors facing one another in a showdown to the death. With a lot of focus on the idea of righteousness triumphing over evil in battle and allowing players to choose what to fight with, if they wanted to fight with anything at all, there’s plenty for a script to pick a plot from. Although story details aren’t public at the moment, the writer attached to the project is Laeta Kalogridis, the creator behind Netflix’s lush cyperpunk romp Altered Carbon.
The project was picked up by The Arena, a new production company run by Erik Feig (Step Up: All In)
