Shadow and Bone — announcement and teaser from Netflix

Netflix has announced a date for YA series Shadow and Bone as well as releasing a (very short) teaser trailer 

Based on the Grishaverse series of the same name by Leigh Bardugo, Netflix is bringing us the first series of Shadow and Bone in April 2021. The Netflix synopsis gives away little:

In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive.

According to the original announcement (courtesy of Deadline), the first series will consists of eight episodes based on the events of novels Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows. It’s adapted by Eric Heisserer (Birdbox) who is also showrunner.

The main cast is Ben Barnes (Westworld) as General Kirigan, Freddy Carter (Pennyworth) as Kaz Brekker , Jessie Mei Li (Last Night in SoHo) as Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux (Voyagers) as Malyen Oretsev, Amita Suman (The Outpost) as Inej, and Kit Young (Endeavour) as Jesper Fahey.
