The show, which also starts Kristin Scott Thomas, comes to Apple TV+ in April.
The trailer has dropped for Apple TV+’s forthcoming espionage drama Slow Horses. The story, based on Mick Herron’s the novel of the same, stars Gary Oldman. Impacted by the pandemic, the show has been a long time coming – we first reported on it in November 2019.
Here’s the premise:
Slow Horses is a darkly humorous espionage drama that follows a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 known un-affectionately as Slough House. Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of the spies, who end up in Slough House due to their career-ending mistakes as they frequently find themselves blundering around the smoke and mirrors of the espionage world.
Joining Oldman in the show are Kristin Scott Thomas, Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon) and Jack Lowden (Benediction).
The wider cast includes Saskia Reeves, Dustin Demri-Burns, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Paul Higgins, Freddie Fox, Chris Reilly, Steve Waddington, Paul Hilton, Antonio Aakeel and Peter Judd. Plus, there’s a special guest appearance Jonathan Pryce too.
The trailer gives a sense of the setup, with Oldman’s Jackson Lamb dropping some terrific one-liners. Meanwhile new boy River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) chafes at his reassignment to the less than salubrious Slough House.
A second series?
There are a number of books and novellas in Mick Herron’s Slough House series. Apparently, Dead Lions, is providing the storyline for a further second six-episode run, shot back-to-back with the first.
James Hawes directs all six episodes of the initial series, which is produced by See-Saw Films and adapted for television by Will Smith (Back, Veep).
Slow Horses lands on Apple TV+ on Friday, 1st of April, with two episodes. The remaining four arrive weekly on subsequent Fridays.
