Looking ahead to 2024, Sky have announced Small Town, Big Story, a new comedy from Chris O’Dowd.
While perhaps still best known in for his role in The IT Crowd, O’Dowd has notched up numerous film and television roles on both sides of the Atlantic. He also co-created, co-wrote and starred in Moone Boy for the broadcaster.
Small Town, Big Story, which he has created and written, is described as a “warm and witty, very dramatic comedy.”
Here’s the premise for Small Town, Big Story
The six-part series is about the fictional town of Drumbán, a rural village of rattled misfits on the border of Ireland and another world, and what happens when a Hollywood production rolls into town and throws the spotlight on a secret that’s been kept hidden since the eve of the Millennium.
The show stars Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) as Wendy Patterson, a local girl done good as a hot-shot television producer, who returns to her hometown from LA with a Hollywood production in tow. Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon) stars as Drumbán’s local doctor and pillar of the community Seamus Proctor.
Also in the cast are Eileen Walsh (Catastrophe) as Catherine Proctor, Seamus’ wife and local schoolteacher, with Leia Murphy and David Rawle as siblings Joanne and Sonny Proctor. Plus, Patrick Martins, Evanne Kilgallon, Andrew Bennett, Ruth McCabe and David Wilmot.
Small Town, Big Story is a Playground / FilmNation Entertainment production in association with Sky Studios. Executive producers are Colin Callender & Scott Huff (Playground), Stefanie Berk &Milan Popelka (FilmNation Entertainment), and Alex Moody (Sky Studios). Plus, Christina Hendricks and Chris O’Dowd. The series producer is Liz Gill. O’Dowd also directs, with Catherine Morshead, Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman.
The series is currently filming on location in Ireland. As an Equity production, filmed in Sky’s home market of the UK & Ireland, all cast agreements are compliant with SAG-AFTRA rules and conditions, and were contracted pre-strike.
