The third season will get underway next month…
Star Trek: Discovery‘s second season saw the titular starship flung into an unknown future, and now we’re waiting to see exactly what that future might look like. Luckily, Season 3 will start streaming on Netflix UK very soon – Friday October 16th, in fact!
The situation in Trek’s future certainly doesn’t feel very optimistic, but therein might lie the Discovery’s purpose, as the official synopsis explains:
“After making the jump in the second season finale, season three of Star Trek: Discovery finds the U.S.S. Discovery crew dropping out of the wormhole and into an unknown future far from the home they once knew. Now living in a time filled with uncertainty, the U.S.S. Discovery crew, along with the help of some new friends, must together fight to regain a hopeful future.”
Season 3 director Jonathan Frakes says we can definitely expect a shake-up when we re-join Michael Burnham and co later this year.
“Michael Burnham has found a new core, not to mention a new partner in crime,” he told Comicbook, making reference to David Ajala’s new character, Book. “So again, there’s a big tonal shift on that show, less driven by the pain and guilt of her past and more about the magical reunification of the Discovery crew and wherever she went off to. God knows where she went as the Red Angel. So those two things coming back together is very much the theme, and how grateful everyone is and what’s next. It’s got a lot of action-adventure and not so much pain.”
