Austin season 1

Austin Season 2 – details of the new run

Posted Filed under

Michael Theo returns as Austin, who’s now grappling with sudden literary fame.

If, like us, you were charmed by the first season of Austin, there’s good news. The next chapter in his story isn’t too far away.

The series, explores the relationship between Austin and his father, the ‘cancelled’ children’s book writer Julian and his illustrator wife Ingrid. Made for ABC Australia, it first aired in June 2024 and reached the BBC this April.

Hopefully, season 2 – which premieres on the ABC on July 27th – arrives a little faster!

Here’s what we know…

Across the eight-part season, Austin (Michael Theo) grapples with sudden literary fame when his novel, “An Autistic Guide to Britain” is picked up by an international publisher. Meanwhile his previously estranged father Julian (Ben Miller), and stepmother Ingrid (Sally Phillips), sell their beloved Big Bear series to Australian TV. Julian is swiftly cut out of the process due to his status as a social media pariah, leaving Ingrid to take the wheel. As Austin tries to stay true to himself, everyone else scrambles for relevance.

At its heart, this season is all about love – finding it, falling into it, leaving it behind – woven through a heartfelt comedy about family, ambition, and the unpredictable pitfalls of success.

Theo, Miller and Phillips star alongside Gia Carides (Big Little Lies), and Roy Billing (Underbelly). Rob Collins (Total Control) and Kate Elliott (Wentworth Prison) also reprise their roles.

For season 2, Rodger Corser (Doctor Doctor), Katrina Milosevic (Wentworth), Claire Lovering (Gold Diggers) and Natalie Abbott (Aftertaste) join the cast.

In Australia, Austin airs on the ABC and streams on the ABC iView.

In the UK, you can find season 1 on the BBC iPlayer. We’ll keep you posted.
