Every home needs a home bot, right?
Apple TV+ have revealed the trailer for Sunny, it’s new ten-part darkly comic mystery series from producers A24.
The show, from showrunner Katie Robbins, is based on the Japan based Irish writer Colin O’Sullivan novel The Dark Manual.
The story takes place in Kyoto and follows the recently widowed Suzie, played by Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation, Silo), and her relationship with a domestic robot.
Joining Jones in the cast are Hidetoshi Nishijima, Joanna Sotomura, Judy Ongg, YOU, annie the clumsy and Jun Kunimura.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Sunny” stars Jones as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company. Though at first Suzie resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life, they gradually develop an unexpected friendship, and together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family, becoming dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed.
Rashida Jones executive produces the show, alongside Katie Robbins and director Lucy Tcherniak (The End of the F***ing World).
Sunny premieres globally on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, 10th July with two episodes. Subsequent episodes will drop weekly until September 4th.
