Keri Russell’s Ambassador Kate Wyler will return.
Netflix’s political thriller The Diplomat, which stars Keri Russell as the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, has gone down a storm.
The show premiered on 20th April and debuted at No.1 on Netflix’s weekly global Top 10 TV (English) list. Now, in the wake of an explosive cliff-hanger ending, the streamer has confirmed via Tudum that the show is returning.
Speaking about the recommission, the creator and show runner Debora Cahn (Homeland) said:
“We had such a great time making The Diplomat. And it’s a thrill to see how much people are enjoying it. We’re so glad we get to do it again.”
The show’s star Keri Russell, who also executive produces, added:
“I am thrilled to be headed back for another round of this smart screwball show. Dare I say it’s fun?”
In the first season, as well as dealing with an international crisis, Ambassador Kate Wyler was also trying to save her marriage to fellow career diplomat Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear and Ato Essandoh also co-starred, as did T’Nia Miller, Celia Imrie and Michael McKean. Plus, Doctor Who‘s Pearl Mackie. However, there’s a chance that not all of the characters survived the explosion that ended the series!
You can stream all of The Diplomat season 1 on Netflix and there’s a great primer on the major characters here. We’ll keep you posted on season 2.
