The premiere of new Marvel series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has broken all records for a new series on Disney+
The premier of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier takes the title from (most recently) WandaVision and previously season two of The Mandalorian, so it’s in very good company. The Nielsens run a few weeks behind (see our most recent analysis) and we are still charting the success of Marvel’s previous outing, WandaVision. This gives us a good baseline from which to observe this latest show as it moves through the first series.
It’s a very different, and in some ways more mainstream series for Marvel. The opening was all action, before we start to move into character moments. It’s very early days, but we do wonder if the appeal of this show is more the core Marvel audience than people tempted by something different. We shall see as the figures emerge.
Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier. The pair, who came together in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame, team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience. Directed by Kari Skogland with Malcolm Spellman serving as head writer, the six-episode series also stars Daniel Brühl as Zemo, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker. It debuted worldwide on Disney+ March 19, 2021.
If you want to keep up with the series as it’s released, there’s a dedicated area on the Marvel site, and it includes episode guides, links to trailers and other material.
