Update: a further piece of news on this one, as it’s been revealed that filming of The Mallorca Files is now set to begin at the end of the year. A November start of production has been earmarked, with the series set to debut in 2019. More as we hear it…
June 2018
BBC One has ordered a full ten-episode series of The Mallorca Files, a new drama for the daytime schedule written by British scribe Dan Sefton. The BBC plans to make the whole series available on the iPlayer after the first episode has aired on telly.
Sefton had a lot on his plate already, with The Good Karma Hospital on ITV, Porters on Dave, Trust Me on BBC One and Delicious on Sky One all coming from him. Truly, he’s one of the most prolific writers in TV at the moment.
TV Wise broke the news about The Mallorca Files’ series order, sharing this summary of the plot:
“The Mallorca Files is set amongst the expat community on the eponymous Spanish island. While self-confessed introverted Brit Miranda Blake takes her career (as well as everything else in life) seriously, German Max Wolf is a classic extrovert and unashamedly unconventional. The combination of these two characters and the sun-drenched setting sets the stage for humour as well as thrills, as the duo do battle to solve each new crime.”
Sefton is quoted as saying this about the project:
“With influences from Almodovar to Coen Brothers, The Mallorca Files brings a fresh new spin to the story of two supposedly mismatched cops forced into an uneasy partnership. Set in the picture-perfect Balearic Island of Mallorca, action-packed, quirky and full of memorable characters, wit, and spectacle, this show is the perfect antidote to the British weather. Created by a team of talented writers including Rachael New, Alex McBride, Sarah Louise Hawkins and Dan Muirden, it has fun with a classic TV genre.”
Production on the show is slated to begin in November, so the cast will probably be announced in the next few months. As we hear more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
