Writing has already begun on the show, which comes from J.J. Abrams production company Bad Robot…

WarnerMedia’s streaming service HBO Max has started planning out some TV projects with J.J. Abrams’ company Bad Robot. Three series are now in development, including a spin-off of Stephen King’s iconic 1977 tome, The Shining.

According to THR, the spin-off – called Overlook – will feature established characters and explore “the untold, terrifying stories of the most famous haunted hotel in American fiction.” It’s the latest trip Abrams has taken to the King well, having made a success of horror series Castle Rock at streamer Hulu. 10-episodes of the show are already being written by Castle Rock alums Dustin Thomason and Scott Brown.

Abrams also has a DC project, Justice League Dark, in development with HBO Max, it’s been revealed, although this project is believed to be in its infancy. Meanwhile, Abrams himself will co-write a series called Duster with LaToya Morgan (The Walking Dead). It’s said to be “set in the 1970s Southwest and revolves around the life of a gutsy getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate who goes from awful to wildly, stupidly, dangerously awful.”

“What an amazing start to our association with the wildly imaginative Bad Robot team under J.J. and Katie,” Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max, said in a statement. “What could be better than an original J.J. idea and then Warner Bros. letting them loose on iconic IP from Stephen King and the DC Universe and to provide more must-have programming on HBO Max.”

We’ll being you more on this as it unfolds.
