The Shrink Next Door: Ferrell and Rudd series moving forward

The comedy series will debut on Apple TV+…

An adaptation of The Shrink Next Door podcast is heading to streaming television, as Apple have ordered eight episodes of the new show after a bidding war broke out. The project, which reteams Anchorman pals Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd, will be helmed by Wet Hot American Summer‘s Michael Showalter. It’s been written by Rudd and Georgia Pritchett. The podcast’s host, Joe Nocera, is also onboard.

Here’s a plot synopsis via THR:

The Shrink Next Door follows the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist-to-the-stars Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz (Ferrell). During the course of their relationship, the all-too-charming Ike slowly takes over Marty’s life, even moving into Marty’s home and assuming control of his family business. The series explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an unprecedentedly exploitative one filled with manipulation, power grabs and dysfunction at its finest.”

Rudd has recently been seen on the small screen in Netflix’s cloning comedy, Living With Yourself, but this will be the biggest TV role for Ferrell since he was a regular on longrunning sketch show Saturday Night Live, where his career originally kicked off.

More soon.
