The Umbrella Academy will be back for a third series, Netflix confirmed on Twitter.
The Netflix tweet simply says:
They’re not done yet!
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 is officially happening!
As an extra bonus, Netflix users can now pick from brand new icons (see the picture above) for their account pictures. The Umbrella Academy responded on their own Twitter feed with:
Oh my god! We’re back! Again! It’s official. Production for S3 of The Umbrella Academy begins in February
The new season will once again consist of 10 one-hour episodes, with production set to commence in Toronto in February 2021. The core cast of Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Colm Feore, and Ritu Arya will all be reprising their roles, while showrunner Steve Blackman remains in charge. The show is based on the comic book series from Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, which follows a group of seven children all born under mysterious circumstances on the same day.
It has proven to be immensely popular and one of the most-streamed series in the US. Popularity is, however, no guarantee of renewal, as fans of several shows will confirm. Coronavirus has added pressure to schedules, and Netflix are known to keep close watch on viewing habits. For whatever reason, this year has seen the cancellation of all the Marvel Defenders, the OA, I Am Not OK With This and Altered Carbon. Then again Lucifer gained an expected sixth series, meaning writers had to chance the yet to be broadcast finale of season five. It’s an interest time to be a fan!
