The show adapts Terry Gilliam’s movie into a live-action adventure series starring Friends‘ Lisa Kudrow.
Way back in the mists of time, well 2022 to be precise, we reported on a television series based on Terry Gilliam’s classic 1981 fantasy film Time Bandits.
The 10-part show from Apple TV+, with Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder) as part of the creative team, now has a start date of July 24th, 2024 on the streaming service.

Time Bandits is an unpredictable journey through time and space with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an 11-year-old history buff named Kevin. Together, they set out on a thrilling quest to save the boy’s parents — and the world.
Guided by Lisa Kudrow, the eccentric crew of bandits embark on epic adventures while evil forces threaten their conquests and life as they know it. As the group transports through time and space, the gang stumbles upon fascinating worlds of the distant past while seeking out treasure, depending on Kevin to shed light on each situation. The Time Bandits witness the creation of Stonehenge, see the Trojan Horse in action, escape dinosaurs in the prehistoric ages, wreak havoc during medieval times, experience the ice age, ancient civilisations, the Harlem Renaissance, and much more along the way.
The series comes from co-showrunners Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) and Iain Morris (The Inbetweeners), and the pair will executive produce alongside Taika Waititi. All three will write and direct episodes, with Clement and Waititi also set to appear in guest roles.
The show’s colourful also cast includes Kal-El Tuck, Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Rune Temte, Charlyne Yi, Rachel House, Kiera Thompson, James Dryden, Felicity Ward, Francesca Mills and Imaan Hadchiti.
Promising to be that rarest of beasts – an adventure series for all ages – we have high hopes for Time Bandits!
