The trailer for the film adaptation of the hit indie video game Exit 8 has been released, here’s what we know about this unexpected project so far:
The Exit 8 was a smash hit amongst lovers of offbeat indie horror games. Created by the small-scale developer, Kotake Create, the game sold 30,000 copies in the first day and in total sold over 2,000,000 copies. Capitalising on the popularity of liminal spaces and anomalies in horror narratives, what’s in store for the surprise adaptation of the video game?
What’s it about?
The adaptation’s story takes a lot from the popular premise of the video game. A man is trapped in the unending corridors of a supernatural metro station. The further he progresses, the more the inhabitants of the station make themselves known and threaten his freedom and his life. Seemingly normal settings and people morph into horrific, uncanny beings that slowly train the protagonist’s eye to look out for anything unusual, and hopefully choose the right path to guide him to Exit 8.
Who’s in it?
The confirmed cast includes Kazunari Ninomiya (Last Samurai Standing), Yamato Kochi (THE BEE), Naru Asanuma (The Night After the Divource), Kotone Hanase (Suzume) and Nana Komatsu (After the Rain).
Who’s behind it?
Genki Kawamura (A Hundred Flowers) and Kentaro Hirase (Roleless) have written the film, with Yuto Sakata, Kenji Yamada (April Come She Will), Akita Yamamoto and Taichi Ito (Horror Theater) producing. Kawamura is also the director.
