It took DCI Jack Cloth (John Hannah) a while to come to terms with his wife’s murder – he barely remembers her name these days – and now he’s hit with the news that his brother, Terry (a bearded, bewigged Hannah), has been killed. The pair weren’t close, in fact, they were estranged, but, you know, it still hurts.
At least the troubled detective can count on his formidable team to help catch the mystery killer, including number two DI Anne Oldman (Suranne Jones), who, nursing a Clothinflicted broken heart, has suddenly developed a savage drinking problem. Then there’s stats man DC Asap Qureshi, DC Des Hairihan, he of the hirsute hands, sex-obsessed forensic expert Natasha and our newest recruit Kerry Newblood (Karen Gillan).
Clues lead Cloth and co to a small English town called Funtcuck (be careful when saying out-loud) and a weird rehab/spa retreat where Terry was receiving treatment for anger issues against a certain sibling. Owner Damien Vull (Line of Duty‘s Adrian Dunbar) is fast-tracked to the top of the prime suspect list – the man does love a sacrificial ceremony albeit without the sacrifice bit – but, when the body count starts to rise, Cloth realises that the culprit is, yes, closer to home.
