Jill Soloway, creator of Amazon’s awards darling, Transparent has announced that the series will end in the form of an all-singing, all-dancing musical…
Soloway was speaking to The New York Times when they announced that a two-hour musical will serve as the last hurrah for the series, which previously announced its fifth and final series. How the musical factors into the fifth series remains to be seen but Deadline confirmed that it will not be a separate project.
Transparent has had to have a serious re-tooling since sexual assault allegations against star Jeffrey Tambor by Trace Lysette, Van Jones and Tamara Delbridge emerged last autumn. After an investigation Tambor was fired in February though the actor continues to deny the allegations.
Talking to The New York Times, Soloway said, “It will hopefully feel like Jesus Christ Superstar mixed with La La Land mixed with Flight of the Conchords with something more Jewish thrown in. A little Yentl.”
The Transparent musical is set to be recorded and filmed soon and will air on Amazon next autumn.
