There are currently no plans to bring Veronica Mars back for another investigation. A source at Hulu told TVLine that they won’t be ordering another season of the crime series in the near future.

The show’s creator, Rob Thomas, has also confirmed that he hasn’t any had any discussions about season 5 with Hulu, who revived the series after a successful Kickstarter movie previously tied up all the leftover plots from the original run. Star Kristen Bell and the rest of the cast had manoeuvred through plenty of scheduling obstacles to film the rebooted show for Hulu, but it didn’t go down particularly well when it eventually arrived.

Thomas ended up facing a massive fan backlash after the new season’s release. He had decided to kill off Veronica’s on-again, off-again boyfriend Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) at the very end of the finale, just minutes after the two characters tied the knot, leaving Veronica free to move on if the show was renewed.

“I know what the show needs to be moving forward,” he said. “There are not many shows about kickass detectives and their boyfriend at home. It was tough getting Logan wrapped into the story this season… There’s a reason shows end when the couple gets together. I’m not going to start doing The Thin Man. It’s not going to be Veronica and Logan solving mysteries, so what is Logan doing in the show?”

We’ll bring you more on season 5 if things change.
