An exciting upcoming project from the BBC has started filming, with a talented cast and engaging premise, here’s what we know so far about Wahala:

The BBC is cultivating fresh new stories yet again, proven by this latest project. The cast and story have begun to be revealed, giving viewers a taste of what’s to come from the upcoming long-form series as filming begins.

What’s Wahala about?

Based on Nikki May’s novel of the same title, this adaptation takes the form of a six-part thriller series. Braiding together the lives of four Nigerian-British women in their thirties in contemporary London, this series looks at the danger and mystery hidden under the veil of normalcy in everyday life. Their love lives, careers and childhood homes clash as memories and secret resurface and their bond is tested, their lives potentially changed forever.

The cast includes Adelayo Adedayo (The Responder), Deborah Ayorinde (Girls Trip), Cush Jumbo (Criminal Record), Susan Wokoma (Cheaters) and Genevieve Nnaji (Lionheart).

Who’s behind Wahala?

The adaptation is written by Theresa Ikoko (Grime Kids). The directors include Leonora Lonsdale (Four Mothers), Theresa Ikoko and Remi Weekes (His House). It’s produced by Ado Yoshizaki Cassuto (Last Passenger).
