The Wire and Ray Donovan star says he’s starting a campaign to make it happen…
After Mike Henry officially confirmed that he would no longer voice the character of Cleveland Brown in Family Guy, Wendell Pierce has volunteered to take over the role.
“It’s been an honour to play Cleveland on Family Guy for 20 years,” Henry said last week. “I love this character, but persons of colour should play characters of colour. Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role.”
Henry has played Cleveland for two decades on Family Guy, and spent four seasons as the voice behind several characters on his spinoff series, The Cleveland Show, which was cancelled in 2013.
“Now that Mike Henry has consciously given up the role of Cleveland, I am publicly starting a campaign to voice the role myself on The Cleveland Show. #WendellIsCleveland,” Pierce posted over on Twitter.

Pierce is best known for his roles in The Wire, Jack Ryan and Ray Donovan. At the time of writing there had been no response from the Family Guy team on his campaign to be the new voice of Cleveland.
