HBO is sticking with its pricey sci-fi series, despite plummeting ratings…
An overhaul of Westworld‘s theme park setting and a wave of new cast additions haven’t boosted the show’s ratings in season 3, but HBO is still excited enough about the sci-fi fantasy series to renew it for a fourth season. The final episode of season 3 is still to come, and will air next Sunday on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
“From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming, in a statement. “We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next.”
The show is loosely based on Michael Crichton’s film Westworld, and was created for HBO by Nolan and Joy with the help of J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company. It stars Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, and Jeffrey Wright, and season 3 saw Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul, and La Haine‘s Vincent Cassel joining the cast.
