In these inexorably Gleeful times, it’s surely only a matter of time before Murray Gold picks up the baton and conducts Doctor Who through the potentially perilous waters of a musical episode – and while the production team haven’t yet decided to attempt their version of Buffy’s Once More With Feeling, pop has played its part in the revamped incarnation of the show almost from the very beginning, when Britney’s ‘Toxic’ serenaded the apocalypse in The End of the World.
But while we wait with baited breath for Matt Smith giving it some Ewan McGregor-in-Moulin Rouge, we can enjoy – or endure – David Tennant’s era as the Doctor re-imagined musically. One, two, three, four…
