The zenith – or possibly nadir – of Dalekmania during the 1960s saw the production of a pop record so extraordinary that it still bewilders the brain and affronts the ears almost fifty years on.
Recorded by the Go-Gos – sadly not the American group featuring Belinda Carlisle and Jane Weidlin, although it is vaguely bewitching to try and imagine ‘Leave A Light On’ or ‘Rush Hour’ recorded with a screechy Hammond organ and surf beat – this festive celebration of Yuletide in the comforting metal grasp of Skaro’s finest has to be heard to be believed.
Even then, the true meaning of the line about twiddling a Dalek’s eye – surely some kind of masturbatory euphemism – may never be clear…
