The basic premise of Luck follows Chester “Ace” Bernstein (ably played by the legendary Dustin Hoffman), a career gangster / mobster released from a three-year prison sentence. During his incarceration, his friend and chauffer Gus (played by Dennis Farina, who played mobster Jimmy Serrano in the comedy Midnight Run as well as Ray “Bones” Barboni in Get Shorty) has become the owner of racehorse “Pint of Plain”. This is the trigger for Ace to start making plans to gain control of the Santa Anita racetrack in Los Angeles. At the same time, he starts making plans to get revenge against those people he holds responsible for sending him to prison.
