The Kitchen: Domhnall Gleeson linked to comic book movie

Irish actor and Star Wars regular Domhnall Gleeson is apparently in “final negotiations” to join the cast of The Kitchen, a big screen adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic book of the same name.

Set in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen during the 1970s, the film focuses on the wives of some Irish gangsters, who are left to pick up the pieces of a criminal empire after their husbands are imprisoned.

Gleeson is being linked to the role of Gabriel O’Malley, described as “an intense Vietnam vet who works for the neighbourhood gangsters as a hitman before skipping town to avoid the police. He returns to settle scores when the wives take over.”

Confirmed cast members include The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss, Spy‘s Melissa McCarthy, GirlTrip standout Tiffany Haddish, and veteran character actress Margo Martindale.

The movie version of The Kitchen is written and directed by Andrea Berloff, who previously contributed to the script and story of Straight Outta Compton. The comic was created, for DC’s edgy Vertigo imprint, by writer Ollie Masters and artist Ming Doyle.

The Kitchen is said to be targetting a September 2019 release date. As we hear about the project, which certainly has a lot of potential, we will be sure to let you know.
