Well, this is exciting. For many years, there’s been talk of a sequel to the late Jim Henson’s wonderful The Dark Crystal. Movie ideas were tossed around, but nothing ever seemed to get off the ground.
Now, though, Netflix has picked up the mantle, and has commissioned a ten part prequel series to The Dark Crystal. That much was already known. What we didn’t know was that filming begins this week.
It’s being directed by Now You See Me helmer Louis Letterier, with Lisa Henson amongst the executive producers. The ten episodes will run to an hour each, and the puppets for the new show are being built at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. The DNA of Henson is set to run through the production.
Filming for this one is taking place in the UK, and we’d expect the show – entitled The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance – to be available in 2019. We’ll be keeping you posted…
