Cozy Crime Catchup for September 2025 has news on Bookish, Ludwig and Signora Volpe

Some weeks there’s too much news to blog or too many smaller items needing company to make a complete article. Welcome to Cozy Crime Catchup, an occasional posting where we collect together news you may have missed. It turns out there’s quite a few shows worth mentioning, so here goes! Apologies for those shows we’ve still overlooked. BTW, the picture above shows (from TL to BR) Bookish, The Brokenwood Mysteries, Art Detectives, Harry Wild, Signora Volpe and Ludwig.

Art Detectives

Acorn TV show Art Detectives, staring and EP’d by Stephen Moyer, will debut on U&Drama in October, so be available to watch on U. As the announcement of the deal says:

…became Acorn TV’s most-watched series premiere of all time when it launched in North America this June, is centred around the Heritage Crime Unit, a police department consisting of art-loving DI Mick Palmer (Moyer) and straight-talking DC Shazia Malik (Nina Singh). Together, they solve murders connected to the world of art and antiques, from Old Master paintings to Banksy street art, medieval manuscripts and collectible vinyl.

Sarah Alexander and Larry Lamb also appear.

Series 2 of Bookish has started filming. Apart from Mark Gatiss, Polly Walker, Connor Finch and others from series 1, a whole host of new names have joined as both regulars and guest. These include Jason Watkins, Miranda Richardson, Simon Callow, Rupert Graves and many more, as listed in this article.

Harry Wild

The same deal bringing Art Detectives to U / U&Drama in October also tells us we are getting four seasons of Jane Seymour show Harry Wild next month. Here’s the outline of the series:

Literature professor Harriet “Harry” Wild (Jane Seymour) is adjusting to retirement when she’s mugged. While recovering at the home of her son (Kevin Ryan), a detective in the Dublin police, Harry gleans a clue for his current case. But when she’s rebuffed, Harry decides to solve the crime herself. Recruiting an unlikely young sidekick (Rohan Nedd), she finds a new path as a private investigator….

Ludwig

Ludwig series 2 has just started filming (BBC update here), so don’t expect to see it on screen until next year. Picking up from where things were left at the end of series one, master puzzle-setter John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor (David Mitchell) is now a Crime Scene Consultant working on ‘impossible’ crimes for the Cambridge Police Authority. No longer having to masquerade as his brother, he’s openly more ‘Ludwig’ than ever — brilliant at solving puzzles but hopeless at everything else.

But John’s identical twin brother, James, is still missing, and now that he’s an official employee of the station, John is forbidden from using any police resources to look for his brother or uncover exactly what he was investigating.

Of course, John won’t stop and neither will Lucy (Anna Maxwell Martin), John’s sister-in-law and wife of his missing brother James — a puzzle needs solving and a husband and father needs bringing home. One masquerade may have ended, but a new one has just begun.

Signora Volpe

The most recent news (via Facebook) is Emilia Fox is back as the titular Signora Volpe for season 3, currently filming in Italy. Again no details.

The Brokenwood Mysteries

Brokenwood Mysteries season 12

If you’re watching UKTV, you should be well into series 11. The good news is series 12 is already filming. Like all the other shows listed, we’ll bring more details as and when we get them.
