Find out who’s who in our guide to Series 2’s characters…
Ellie
Ellie has a problem: she sees ghosts. A year ago, she was fine and as happy as she’d ever been. Her boyfriend proposed, they got engaged and she was doing the job she loved as a paramedic. Then everything started to change: the bad dreams, the insomnia, the weird visions… It took over her life and, when we meet Ellie, she’s hit rock bottom, suspended from work and dumped by her fiancé.
Ellie’s a fighter, though, and determined not to take this lying down, she tries to track down an ex-patient from the hospital psych ward who shared frighteningly similar experiences. A young man named Jed. His last known address was Bedlam Heights, so Ellie sets off in search of answers.
Max
By day, Max tends the bar at Bedlam Heights. By night, however, he pursues his real passion, writing blogs about the supernatural, and it’s no coincidence he’s doing this in Britain’s most haunted house. Max’s father died when he was only a kid and he’s adamant he saw his ghost at the bottom of his bed that night. Ever since, Max has sought to make contact with the supernatural, in the hope that, one day, he might speak to his dad.
It’s a pursuit that brought him to Bedlam, where stories swirl of strange activity, to a job and a room at a reduced rate (in Kate’s flat). Max’s curiosity is sparked by the arrival of Ellie and her search for Jed, and he knows there’s more to her than meets the eye.
Dan
Dan works for Warren in Sales & Letting at Bedlam Heights and, instrumental in rebranding the residential development, has buried the building’s dark history and renamed it Brightmoor. With Kate and Molly away travelling, Dan rents a room in the flat with Max. The two get along fine, but Max can’t quite get to grips with Dan’s pulling powers; his bedroom might as well be installed with a revolving door for all the girls he brings back.
Confident and charming, Dan is a smooth operator, but behind that twinkle in his eye, something a lot more complicated is going on. He’s here at Bedlam for a reason, and he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants.
Kiera
It’s fair to say that Kiera is a complex soul – she’s fast-talking, hard-bitten, sarcastic, but actually quite a brittle young woman. Her deep-seated cynicism and many opinions on what’s wrong with the world disguise an underlying lack of self-worth.
Kiera has been good friends with Kate since they were little and, after getting into trouble at university, Kiera’s parents arranged for Warren to keep an eye on her at Bedlam Heights while she finished her degree. Letting her head rule her heart, Kiera has a knack for making snap judgements and even worse decisions, regularly finding herself in dysfunctional relationships with guys, usually of the older variety.
Warren
Warren’s relationship with his daughter has reached a new low. Kate left to travel the world, but now she’s on her way home and they’ll have no choice but to address their issues. In his daughter’s absence, Warren recruited Dan to manage Sales & Lettings and he’s impressed by how he’s turned Bedlam Heights around.
The place holds great importance for Warren, because it’s the seat of his family’s heritage and the building’s history is in his blood. That said, it’s also been the home of some truly terrible occurrences, and, as the old adage goes about not being able to forget your past, something is coming back to haunt Warren.
