BBC One has announced that Our Girl will be coming back for a second season.
However, it looks like the new episodes will be very different, with a new cast telling an all new story in a new setting.
Here’s everything we know about Season 2 so far…
Why isn’t Lacey Turner returning as Molly?
She’s too busy with her full-time role as Stacey Branning in EastEnders.
Lacey says: “I had an amazing time making Our Girl and taking Molly on her journey. Unfortunately I won’t be able to take her through this series as I’m currently busy working on EastEnders, but I know that Tony will write a fantastic series full of action and drama with great characters.”
Our Girl creator Tony Grounds confirmed on Twitter: “Understand peoples sadness at no Molly, I’m sad too but was Lacey’s choice to stay at EE.”
Who is her replacement?
Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan, recently seen in BBC One’s Ordinary Lies, will play a new medic. Her character is called Corporal Georgie Lane.
Writer Tony Grounds promises: “[Michelle Keegan] will ace it!”
Is Michelle Keegan a fan of Our Girl?
Michelle commented: “I’m a massive fan of the series so I can’t wait to be a part of it. It’s going to be a big but exciting challenge for me so I can’t wait to get started.”
Will Ben Aldridge be back?
Tony Grounds has hinted on Twitter that Captain James will return, saying: “That’s the plan.”
And Aldridge himself suggested in January that he was up for playing Captain James again: “Bring back Two Section 2015? Sure.”
Where is Season 2 set?
The new story is based in a refugee camp in Kenya, in East Africa.
When does filming start?
Season 2 is due to begin filming in Kenya in January 2016.
When will it air?
The new episodes are expected to air on BBC One in late 2016.
How many episodes are being made?
There will reportedly be five episodes; the same as Season 1.
What will the new story be about?
A BBC spokesperson revealed: “It won’t be an easy posting as [Georgie] has to earn the love and trust of her fellow soldiers, and the greater respect of her commanding officer, while working alongside aid workers in the world’s biggest refugee camp. Kenya will be full of surprises that will challenge Georgie professionally and personally.”
Is the original writer back?
Yes, the new season will still be written by the show’s creator, Tony Grounds.
Will anyone else from the first season be back?
No cast apart from Michelle Keegan have yet been confirmed, but we wouldn’t be surprised if some of Season 1’s supporting characters appear.
